Alien Registration

There are some formalities to be completed by foreigners who come to work or study in Japan. One of the first things to be done after arrival is Alien Registration (gaikokujin tōroku).
Foreigners who plan to stay and work or study in Japan for more than 90 days are required by Alien Registration Act to complete the Alien Registration within 90 days of arrival in Japan. Foreigners can complete Alien Registration by reporting to local municipal office presenting their passport and 2 photos of themselves at their earliest convenience after their arrival in Japan.
