Electric Modes and Voltages in Major Countries

Foreigners planning to work or study in Japan should check the electric conditions in Japan, which may be different from that in their own country.

The electric mode and voltage in Japan is AC100V, while electric modes and voltages in other major countries can be roughly divided into the following three:

  • AC120V regions: United States, Canada, Guam, Hawaii, Latin America (which partly includes AC110V/127V regions) etc.
  • AC220V regions: Europe (except United Kingdom), most parts of Africa, South-east Asia, and China
  • AC240V regions: England, Singapore, Malaysia, Oceania (which partly includes AC230V regions) etc..

Foreigners who work or study in Japan will also need to check the outlet type adopted in Japan. Their electric devices that they bring to Japan might not work due to the differences of electric modes, voltages and outlet types.
