Crimes in Japan

Although crime rate in Japan is lower than in the U.S. and in many major European countries, but the past decade has seen unprecedented increase of crime cases in Japan.
In Japan, where guns are not easily purchased, use of gun in crime cases is rarer than in the U.S., but these days there have been countless crime cases where Japanese individuals are shot to death even in Japan.

There are also other crimes which are unique to Japan. One of them is frotteurism or sexual harassment crime committed on trains, because of which most railway companies in big cities like Tokyo and their suburban cities keep the rearmost car of trains running in commuters’ rush hours exclusively for women and children.
Knowing about crimes in Japan also means knowing Japan and its society, economy and culture.

More information on crimes in Japan is available on the official website of NPA, National Police Agency.
