Animal and Plant Quarantine

People who bring their pets to Japan are required to report thereof to the Customs, and to pass the examinations at animal and plant quarantine office controlled by MAFF, Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries. There are different regulations for different types of animals and plants.

For example, dogs are tested for rabies and leptospirosis at the Quarantine Office. Cats, fox and skunks are tested for rabies at the Animal and Plant Quarantine Office. There are even pets that are not allowed to be taken into Japan like birds.
